Getting to Bira from Makassar

Choose the transport mode that best suits your needs and budget

Public Bus / Damri

5–6 Hours IDR 80,000 – 150,000 / person

Take a bus from Makassar Mallengkeri or Daya Terminal to Bulukumba Terminal. The journey takes about 4–5 hours. From Bulukumba, continue by local minivan (pete-pete) or motorbike taxi to Bira Beach.

Buses depart in the morning around 07:00–09:00. Arrive early to secure a seat.

Air-Conditioned Travel / Shuttle

4–5 Hours IDR 150,000 – 200,000 / person

Air-conditioned travel services depart directly from Makassar to the Bulukumba and Bira area. More comfortable and faster than public buses with several departures per day.

Book a seat the day before, especially on weekends and holidays.

Private / Rental Car

3–4 Hours IDR 350,000 – 600,000 / day (rental) + fuel

Drive from Makassar via the Trans-Sulawesi road. Exit at Bulukumba then follow signs to Tanjung Bira. Beautiful scenery along the way. Car rental with driver is also available.

Use Google Maps or Waze. Fill up with fuel before leaving Bulukumba.

Motorbike Taxi / Rental (Last Mile)

10–20 Minutes (from Bira terminal) IDR 20,000–50,000 (taxi) / IDR 80,000–120,000/day (rental)

From the nearest parking area in Bira, take a motorbike taxi directly to Mangga Lodge. Daily motorbike rental is also available to explore the area.

Main Transport

Public bus, travel service, or private car. Journey approx. 3–5 hours via Trans-Sulawesi.

Transit Point

Bulukumba / Terminal

Transit at Bulukumba for bus passengers. Private car users can continue directly to Bira.

Last Mile

Terminal → Bira

Take a pete-pete or motorbike taxi from the terminal to Bira Beach, about 30–60 minutes.

Return buses usually depart from Bulukumba Terminal. A motorbike taxi or pete-pete can take you there. Journey takes around 4–6 hours.

The last bus departs around 14:00–15:00. Plan your departure accordingly.
